Reading, Berkshire, UK. 1st May 2016 The Sikh community of Reading and Wokingham celebrate Vaisakhi in East Reading. The procession (a Nagar Kirtan, literally 'neighbourhood hymn singing') raised money for the charity, Daisy's Dream. It began at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Cumberland Road, finishing at the Ramgarhia Sabha Reading Gurdwara in London Road. The Sikh custom of a Nagar Kirtan involves the processional singing of holy hymns throughout the community, commonly held during the month of Visakhi (or Vaisakhi) - the day that Sikhism was born as a collective faith - which falls on April 14th each year. © Danny Callcut.
